Rijeka Crnojevića vs Virpazar: Which Departure Point to Choose
Both villages sell boat tours on the same lake, and they are not the same trip. The difference is the 15 kilometres of river canyon between Rijeka Crnojevića and the open water — scenery that Virpazar departures never reach.

You see more before you reach the lake
Leaving Rijeka Crnojevića, the boat passes under old stone bridges, runs between reed walls and crosses fields of water lilies, with herons lifting off ahead of you, before the canyon widens into the lake. That stretch is where most of the wildlife and nearly all of the intimate scenery is. From Virpazar you start on open water: bigger views, less detail, and no river at all.
Pavlova Strana, the most photographed view on the lake
The horseshoe bend above Rijeka Crnojevića is the picture you have probably already seen of Lake Skadar. It is a free roadside viewpoint on the Cetinje road, minutes above the village — so you can photograph the bend from above and then travel through it by boat on the same morning. Virpazar is an hour's round trip away from it.
Fewer boats, fewer people
Virpazar is the lake's main hub: the railway station, the tour desks, the coaches. Rijeka Crnojevića is a village of around 300 people with a handful of operators. Our tours are private, your group only, leaving directly from Restaurant Savina Luka where parking is free.
When Virpazar makes sense
If you are travelling by train or bus and cannot arrange a transfer, Virpazar is genuinely easier to reach. It also sits closer to the southern shore, Lesendro and Grmožur fortresses, and the swimming beaches at Murići. Everything else — canyon, lilies, pelican channels, viewpoint — argues for Rijeka Crnojevića.
